This
bridge, at the western end of the 72km upgrading and tarring
of the Mahalapye to Macheneng road, replaces a dangerous level
crossing on the main railway line.
The
bridge was awarded to Reinforced Earth on 13/09/1999 with
a 15 week programme proposal.
Two
moulds were manufactured to suit the particular contract-specified
dimensions, with a concrete slab for each to be cast on site
to form the bottom edge of the vertically cast panels.
The
programme was accelerated to enable the moulds to be complete
and installed on site before the end of October, with precasting
commencing on 4 November. The precasting was performed in
such a manner as to complete the entire precast operation
before the Christmas shutdown.
The
arch structure was erected in 2 days using two cranes full
time and a crew of 15.
