Thomas
Sankara Interchange, Ghana
Reinforced
Earth (Pty) Ltd (RESA) secured a contract for the design and
supply of materials for the MSE approach ramps to a fly-over
bridge for the Thomas Sankara Interchange in Accra, Ghana.
The TerraClass® system, using precast concrete
elements, was provided to present an engineered and aesthetically
pleasing solution to the contractor Razel Freres Entreprise
(based in France).
RESA
supplied six steel precast moulds and inserts for the production
of 995 no. panels. The total area of the wall covered by these
cruciform shaped panels is 1918 m2.
RESA
also supplied the steel reinforcement which has a dimension
of 45x5mm and ranges in length from 4 to 5m. These strips
are attached to the panels and restrain the earth with friction
and its inherent strength.
The
contractor was given technical assistance by RESA personel
at the start of precast production and construction of the
walls. Both the client and the contractor have expressed their
satisfaction with the solution.
